Terms
Terms of Service
The short version
- Accounts are for grown-ups (18+). You're responsible for your account and for the children who use it with you.
- Your books are yours. You give us permission to store, make, print and (only if you publish) show them.
- Only upload what you have the right to. Photos and voices of other people need their permission. A child's need their parent's.
- Voice clones are for reading stories, never for pretending to be someone or fooling anyone.
- AI makes mistakes. Read and look over your book before you share or print it.
- Credits pay for AI work. They have no cash value. Failed steps are refunded in credits.
- Printed books are made to order by Lulu. We replace damaged or misprinted copies.
1. These terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Thinkybooks ("we", "us") about using thinkybooks.com and its apps and tools (the "service"). By making an account or using the service you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information, including children's.
2. Accounts
- You must be 18 or older to have an account. Accounts are for parents, guardians, teachers and other grown-ups.
- Children use Thinkybooks with you, on your account, through the reader and Kid mode. You're responsible for the children who use the service with you and for what is made on your account.
- Keep your account secure. You sign in with Google. You're responsible for activity on your account, including activity by anyone you let use it and by AI agents you connect. Tell us straight away at help@thinkybooks.com if you think someone else is using it.
- One person per account. Don't share it with other grown-ups or sell or transfer it.
3. Credits and payments
What credits are
Credits pay for the AI work in Thinkybooks: writing a story, painting pages and characters, narrating pages, making a voice clone, animating a page, and exporting a print-ready PDF. The app shows the price in credits before you start, and a book's estimate before you make it.
- Free credits: a new account gets 150 free credits.
- Credit packs: 100 credits for $10, 350 credits for $30, and 1,200 credits for $100 (US dollars). Prices may change; the price shown at checkout is the one you pay.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your card.
The rules
- Credits have no cash value. They can't be exchanged for money, transferred to another account, or sold.
- Credits are used only inside Thinkybooks. Printed books are paid for separately, in money, at checkout.
- If your account is deleted, by you or after 24 months without a sign-in (see the Privacy Policy), its credits are deleted with it.
Refunds
- When a step fails on our side, its credits come back automatically. If a generation clearly failed because of a system error and the credits didn't come back, tell us and we'll check and top you up.
- Credits you've used aren't refunded because you didn't like a result. Every generation has a real cost to us. If something isn't working the way you expect, write to us before spending more and we'll help.
- Nothing in these terms takes away a refund right the law in your country gives you.
4. Printed books
- Who prints them. Printed books are made to order and shipped by our print partner, Lulu.
- Price. You see the full price, including shipping, before you pay. Print and shipping costs are passed through at cost.
- Where we ship. To the countries listed at checkout.
- Timing. Standard shipping is about 7–10 business days and express about 2–4 business days; your order shows the estimate for its destination before you pay. These are estimates, not promises.
- You approve the book. Check the text, pictures and layout before you order. We print what you approve.
- Cancelling. If your book hasn't gone into production, we can cancel the order and refund you in full. Once production starts, it can't be cancelled.
- Refunds. Every book is printed just for you, so we can't refund a completed order you changed your mind about.
- Damaged or misprinted copies. If your book arrives with a real print defect (misprinted pages, binding problems, damage in shipping), email us with a few photos soon after it arrives. We'll arrange a replacement at no charge.
- Content you approved. We generally can't reprint for content you reviewed and confirmed. If something looks clearly and unexpectedly different from what you approved on screen, tell us and we'll look into it.
- Delivery addresses must be complete and correct. We can't be responsible for books sent to an address you gave us that was wrong.
5. What you upload
"Your content" means everything you put into Thinkybooks: stories, names, notes, photos, voice recordings, and anything you type or record.
- You must own it, or have permission to use it.
- Photos and voices of other people need their permission. For a child, that means their parent or legal guardian's permission. When you upload a child's photo or record a child's voice, you'll be asked to confirm you are their parent or guardian (or have their parent's permission). Only confirm if it's true.
- No characters you don't have the rights to. Don't upload or ask for trademarked or copyrighted characters (for example from films, TV, games or other books) unless you own the rights or have permission.
- Don't upload anything illegal, or anything that breaks someone else's rights or privacy.
6. Voice clones
- Clone only your own voice, or the voice of someone who has agreed. For a child's voice, you must be their parent or guardian; it also needs a completed credit-pack purchase on the account (see the Privacy Policy).
- Voice clones are for reading stories aloud. Never use one to impersonate someone, to deceive anyone, or to make someone appear to say something they didn't.
- You can delete a voice any time. A child's voice can never be shared with other families.
7. AI-made content
Stories, pictures and narration are made by AI models. They can be wrong, odd, or not what you asked for: a misspelled name, a character who looks different on one page, a word misread aloud. Read and look over your book before you share, publish or print it. You decide what to keep, change or delete. AI output may also look similar to things made for other people.
8. Who owns what
- Your content stays yours. As between you and us, you own your content and the books you make, to the extent the law allows anyone to own them.
- The permission you give us. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process and change the format of your content, and to send it to the companies that help us (listed in the Privacy Policy), only to run the service for you: making, saving, reading aloud, sharing when you share, and printing when you order. Only if you publish a book does this licence also let us show it in the public library and its previews. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we must keep by law (such as order records) and the short backup periods in the Privacy Policy.
- What's ours. Thinkybooks, its software, design, art styles, library books and brand belong to us or our licensors. You may read library books in the service. Don't copy the service or scrape it.
- Ideas. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
9. Sharing and the public library
- Share links work straight away. Anyone with the link can read the book.
- Publishing to the public library sends your book to our team for review first. When you publish, you confirm you are the parent or guardian of any child named, pictured or heard in the book, and that you agree it can be public.
- We decide what appears in the library. We may decline a book, or remove a shared or published book at any time, for example if it breaks these terms or someone reports it.
- You can unpublish or stop sharing your book at any time.
- Reporting. If you see something inappropriate, tell us at help@thinkybooks.com.
- Copyright and trademark complaints. If you believe something on Thinkybooks uses your work or brand without permission, email help@thinkybooks.com with: your contact details; what you own; where it appears on Thinkybooks (a link); and a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised and that your complaint is accurate. We'll review it, may remove the content, and may tell the person who posted it. Accounts that repeatedly break others' rights will be closed.
10. AI agent connections
You can connect an AI assistant (an "agent") to your account with a connection token, from Profile → Connect an agent.
- You're responsible for the agents you connect and everything they do with your account, as if you had done it yourself.
- Agents spend your credits. Each connection has a daily spending limit, but what it spends inside that limit is charged to you.
- Keep tokens secret, as you would a password. Tokens expire after the time you picked (30, 90 or 365 days), and you can revoke one at any time. We may also revoke tokens to protect your account or the service.
- Everything in these terms applies to what an agent makes, including the rules on photos, voices and other people's rights.
11. Acceptable use
Thinkybooks is for making children's books. Don't use it to:
- make content that is sexual, hateful, harassing, or that exploits, endangers or targets any person, especially a child;
- make content about a real person that is false or hurtful, or use someone's photo or voice without permission;
- impersonate anyone or deceive people, including with a voice clone;
- break the law or anyone else's rights;
- get around our safety filters, credit system, spending limits or review;
- break, overload, probe or reverse-engineer the service, or scrape it or use it to build a competing product;
- let a child under 18 hold or run an account.
We may report illegal content, including any sexual content involving a child, to the authorities.
12. Suspension and ending
- You can stop at any time and delete your account in the app.
- We may suspend or close an account, remove content, or revoke agent tokens if you break these terms, if we must by law, or to protect children, other users or the service. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
- If we close an account for breaking these terms, unused credits are not refunded.
- Accounts with no sign-in for 24 months are deleted, as described in the Privacy Policy.
13. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
We work hard to keep Thinkybooks running well, but we provide it "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we don't promise it will always be available, error-free, or that AI output will be accurate or suit a particular purpose.
To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses (such as lost data you didn't keep a copy of, or lost profits), and our total liability to you for any claim about the service is limited to the greater of (a) what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) $100.
Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited, such as for fraud, or for death or injury caused by negligence, or takes away your rights as a consumer.
If you break these terms or the law, or upload content you didn't have the right to, and someone makes a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of that claim.
14. Governing law and disputes
If you have a problem, please contact us first at help@thinkybooks.com. Most things can be sorted out quickly. These terms are governed by the laws that apply where we are based, without overriding any consumer protection laws of the place you live that you're entitled to rely on.
15. Changes
We may update these terms as Thinkybooks changes. We'll update the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using Thinkybooks after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can stop and delete your account.
If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce something straight away, we haven't given up the right to. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the service.
